SINOPSIS
The lord of the rings: the two towers mengisahkan perjuangan kembali dari para pembawa cincin untuk bisa menghancurkan cincin yang memiliki kekuatan kegelapan tersebut. Tujuan mereka masih sama yaitu gunung berapi yang memiliki nama mordor. Karena hanya disanalah, cincin yang memiliki kekuatan kegelapan tersebut bisa dihancurkan. Namun kekuatan dari para pembawa cincin tersebut mulai goyah setelah kematian dari gandalf. Gandalf sendiri dikira telah mati setelah jatuh ke dalam jurang.
Bukan hanya goyah, para pembawa cincin tersebut juga mulai terpencar satu sama lain. Hanya frodo dan sam yang masih melakukan perjalanan ke mordor sambil membawa cincin tersebut. Sedangkan anggota yang lain, banyak yang terpisah karena alasan masing-masing. Ada yang tertawan oleh sekelompok musuh. Ada yang mencari bala bantuan. Ada yang masih harus menyelesaikan masalahnya sendiri. Namun semua masih memiliki tujuan yang sama yaitu mengalahkan kekuatan gelap milik sauron sekaligus mengembalikan perdamaian di bumi.
Frodo dan sam yang tidak menahu arah ke mordor kemudian mendapatkan bantuan dari sesosok makhluk bernama gollum. Gollum sendiri adalah sosok makhluk yang unik karena suatu waktu ia bisa berbuat sangat baik namun di waktu yang lain, ia juga bisa berperangai sangat buruk. Gollum diduga memiliki dua kepribadian.
Ternyata gollum dahulunya adalah pemilik dari cincin tersebut. Akibat kekuatan gelap dari cincin tersebut membuat gollum menjadi makhluk yang mengerikan. Gollum sudah menganggap bahwa cincin tersebut adalah bagian dari dirinya. Hingga kemudian cincin tersebut hilang dari tangan gollum. Gollum menghabiskan waktunya hanya untuk bisa menemukan cincin tersebut.
Lalu gollum mengetahui bahwa cincin tersebut sekarang dibawa oleh frodo dan sam. Gollum kemudian merancang sebuah rencana licik yaitu ia akan berpura-pura membawa mereka ke mordor namun begitu ada kesempatan, gollum akan merebut cincin tersebut dari tangan mereka berdua.
Di sisi lain, kekuatan jahat terus bertambah kuat. Hal tersebut juga tidak lepas karena saruman yang dulunya berpihak kepada manusia, kini lebih memilih untuk berpihak pada kekuatan jahat milik sauron. Sedikit harapan bagi manusia, muncul ketika gandalf diketahui masih hidup. The lord of the rings : the two towers adalah film kedua dari trilogi the lord of the rings.
